My Story: JAK

Pride in Respect | Lived Experience Stories: Jak

Jak shares his lived experience as a proud Gandangara Koori man and the unique challenges faced by people sitting at the intersectionality of Aboriginality, same-sex relationships and domestic violence.

Reflecting on the crucial role that culture and community play in providing support, and the importance of prioritising personal safety, Jak also describes the reality of experiencing coercive control, growing isolation, and physical violence while also navigating the additional and ever-present challenge of negative biases and assumptions.

This video is part of Pride in Respect, a campaign raising awareness of family, domestic, sexual and initimate partner violence in LGBTIQA+ communities.
