Meet your host: Dr Jack Farrugia

Dr Jack Farrugia (he/him) is a researcher and passionate equity and inclusion advocate for marginalised communities. His current research focuses on improving the mental health and wellbeing of marginalised young people in regional Western Australia. Jack has also led and contributed to major LGBTIQA+ community research projects, including work to strengthen mental health and alcohol and other drug services delivered by LGBTIQA+ community‑controlled organisations (Optimise+), and to improve service responses to intimate partner violence among LGBTIQA+ people (Safer Options).

His dedication to this work is informed by lived experience, including with intimate partner violence and growing up with mental health challenges as an LGBTIQA+ young person in regional Australia. Through these experiences, Jack has developed a deep understanding of the impacts of stigma and discrimination, and is driven to use his experience and research to make a meaningful difference.
