Pride in Respect | Lived Experience Stories: Julia
Julia shares her lived experience of long-term coercive control, family violence, post-separation abuse, and the different ways that abuse can continue even after a relationship has ended. Julia also reflects on how identity, stigma, small-town visibility and assumptions can be used as tools of control in LGBTIQA+ contexts.
Her story is a powerful reminder that leaving an abusive relationship does not always mean immediate safety, and how people using violence may continue to intimidate, monitor, threaten, isolate or manipulate victim-survivors long after the relationship is over.
This video is part of Pride in Respect, a campaign raising awareness of family, domestic, sexual and intimate partner violence in LGBTIQA+ communities.
